Genesis Classical Academy has just completed the first quarter of the 2020 – 2021 school year on our new campus at the edge of town, and we are settling in nicely to our new spaces. We also have added many “new faces” this year, including 24 new students and several highly-qualified teaching and support staff.
Ms. Tammi Nestor joins Genesis Classical Academy as Assistant Principal and a half-time second grade teacher. She holds a Bachelor’s degree in Elementary and Special Education, a Master’s degree in Transformational Leadership, and is enrolled in a doctoral program in K-12 administration. She and her family also spent 10 years in missions in the Philippines. Her four daughters are now grown, and Ms. Nestor remarks, “God has led me to Genesis at this time and for His purposes. I am delighted to join the Genesis family in serving our Lord in this community.”
Mrs. Jamie Bonnema is our new Physical Education teacher and Athletic Director, but is no stranger to GCA. She and her husband Jason have four children who attend Genesis, and Mrs. Bonnema has been our blog editor and worked with many fundraising and marketing projects. She holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology, a Coaching Endorsement from Northwestern College, worked for eleven years as a youth treatment counselor in residential care and education, owns her own nutrigenomics business, and has a wide range of other skills. She is passionate about building opportunities in athletics for our students, and just completed the fall season with our first athletic team, in trap shooting.
Mrs. Hannah Sanders teaches preschool in the morning and kindergarten in the afternoon. This enthusiastic and high-energy teacher studied at Maranatha Baptist University, and holds a Master of Education degree. She taught previously for three years at Fourth Baptist Christian School in Plymouth, MN. Mrs. Sanders says, “I am so excited to see my students grow and learn about God.”
Mrs. Kim Warner is the new 3rd grade teacher at GCA. She has a Master of Arts in Instruction from St. Mary’s University, and taught 3rd – 6th grade for four years at St. Casimir’s School in Wells. She and her husband Dan have two young children, and Mrs. Warner says she is “blessed and thrilled to become a part of this family.”
GCA is also blessed to have the services of two new music specialists this year. Ms. Anne Goedtke comes to us from the Mankato School of Music, and is giving private guitar lessons to the students in Grades 6 – 8. Ms. Goedtke attended college at the University of Minnesota – Twin Cities, studying Music Therapy, and was the principal cellist in the U of M Symphony orchestra. She also plays with a number of area bands, writes her own guitar music, and is in the process of recording some of her own music.
Ms. MaryAnn Sanders is pursuing a piano pedagogy (instruction) major at Faith Baptist Bible College, and has been teaching piano since 2018. She currently provides individual piano lessons to our students in Grades 3 – 5 while completing her studies online.
Mrs. Susan Grover has taken a leave of absence, and Mr. Bart Whitman has stepped down from teaching but continues as transportation director. We also are blessed with a number of new support staff, who will be introduced in a future blog post.
Welcome to all of the new students and staff at Genesis Classical Academy!
