Genesis Staff Prepares for School

Three new teachers will be joining Genesis Classical Academy (GCA) this fall as the school enters its third year of operation. Parent/Teacher conferences will be held on September 5. Classes begin on September 6.

Sixth grade is being added to the existing pre-school through 5th grade. Merilyn Yates will be the new sixth grade teacher. She is an experienced 6th grade teacher with a BS in Secondary Education with concentrations in Music and Home Economics.

Cherryl Torkkola will be teaching the 3, 4 & 5 year old preschool class. She has a BS in Elementary Education and a BA in Music. She has previous preschool teaching experience.

Also joining the staff is Bart Whitman, who will be teaching Physical Education for all grades this year. He has a BA in Youth Ministry and an MA in Theology.

Returning teachers and board members have also been preparing for the new year, most traveled to the 25th annual Association of Classical Christian Schools conference earlier this summer. ACCS is a nationwide organization that seeks to equip its member schools in using the classical approach to instruct the next generation in the light of a Christian worldview. Teachers attended the workshop series on the Essential Training for Classical Christian Teachers to build on the Christ, character and classical distinctives of GCA.

The board of directors of Genesis Classical Academy in Winnebago is pleased to announce that the recent $25,000 matching gift challenge has been successfully completed, with a total of $85,201 raised for the school! The board, staff, and students of Genesis Classical Academy wish to thank all donors for their generous support. Funds raised will be used for operational expenses of the school, and to provide tuition assistance to families of students who might otherwise be unable to receive a Genesis Classical education. To date, donations and tuition received totals approximately 80% of the funds needed for the 2016-2017 school year.

Genesis Classical Academy is a nondenominational Christian academy located on the campus of Parker Oaks in Winnebago, Minnesota. Classes are currently offered for Preschool through Grade 5, with Grade 6 being added for the 2017 – 2018 school year. Genesis Classical Academy is a 501 (c ) 3 nonprofit, and gratefully accepts donations of any amount to further the mission of the school.
