Genesis Classical Academy is a nondenominational Christian, classical school that opened in the fall of 2015 in Winnebago, MN. Located in a small rural community in south-central Minnesota, GCA draws students from a 45-mile radius.

In April of 2015, the Blue Earth Area School District made the decision to close the public elementary school in Winnebago. A group of local parents, grandparents, and community members saw a need and an opportunity for an educational alternative that would provide a rigorous academic education and character development rooted in Christian values. 

The original plan was to open Genesis Classical Academy offering preschool through Grade 2 and add grade levels each year. However, based on student enrollment, the initial year of the school was expanded to include preschool through Grade 4. In September of 2015 Genesis Classical Academy opened its doors on the campus of Heartland Senior Living – less than five months after the decision to close the Winnebago public school location. 

Each of the past 8 years, GCA has added another grade level. Beginning with 33 students, enrollment has continued to grow, and Genesis Classical Academy is now home to 120 students in preschool through 11^th grade. In the fall of 2022, every-day, all-day preschool was first offered as an option for parents. With the help of the Lord and our partners, Genesis will add 12^th grade in the fall of 2023, and graduate our first class in the spring of 2024. 

In the Spring of 2020, Genesis purchased the former Adolescent Treatment Center of Winnebago. The beautiful building and campus stretches over 6 acres with current plans for expansion. 

Together with the help of our parents, grandparents, and area citizens, we are experiencing a rare and rich educational alternative in Winnebago, Minnesota. Our desire is to provide light and salt to our region through the nurture and admonition of our greatest blessing – our children.
