88 Keys and a Million Dreams

Have you heard?  There’s going to be a party – and YOU are invited!

Genesis Classical Academy will be hosting the 2019 Spring Fling fundraiser on Saturday, April 6th from 5 – 10 pm, at the Winnebago School Auditorium (132 1st Ave SE, Winnebago). The event includes a baked chicken breast dinner, live entertainment, a silent and live auction, and a raffle.

The theme of this year’s event is “88 Keys and a Million Dreams”.  But what, exactly, does that mean?

Music is a very large part of a GCA education, and in particular, piano music.  All students in grades 3 – 5 receive piano instruction as part of the curriculum.

There are 88 keys on a standard piano – 52 white keys and 36 black ones.  But no two keys are alike – from the rich, rumbling timbre of the lowest A, to the “plink” of the highest C, each key makes its own unique sound.  But when combined under the fingers of a skilled pianist, the piano brings forth its beautiful melody and harmonies. It has been said that “Art is how we decorate space, music is how we decorate time.”

One of the things I love the most about Genesis Classical Academy is the awareness and celebration of each student’s unique gifts.  Some are blessed with musical talent, others are mathematical wizards. Some write interesting stories or create beautiful art, while others have natural athletic ability. Some students are blessed with the gift of a tender heart – full of compassion and empathy.  No two students are alike – but each of them (and each of us) have been uniquely gifted by God, and placed in THIS time, and THIS place, to further God’s kingdom here on earth. Like the keys of the piano, when played by the Master, we create a beautiful song.

In 1 Corinthians 12:18-20 and 26-27, Paul uses this analogy:

But as it is, God arranged the members in the body, each one of them, as he chose.  If all were a single member, where would the body be? As it is, there are many parts, yet one body…  If one member suffers, all suffer together; if one member is honored, all rejoice together. Now you are the body of Christ and individually members of it.

“A Million Dreams” is a song from the movie “The Greatest Showman”, and our students will be performing this song at the event. The chorus of the song is:

‘Cause every night I lie in bed
The brightest colors fill my head
A million dreams are keeping me awake
I think of what the world could be
A vision of the one I see
A million dreams is all it’s gonna take
A million dreams for the world we’re gonna make

A Million Dreams by Benj Pasek and Justin Paul

Our students at Genesis Classical Academy have a million dreams – and we have a million dreams for them.  Our dream is that they will nurture their God-given talents and grow into leaders who will help shape the world into a place of goodness, beauty, and truth.

Will you share in our song?  Come to Spring Fling on April 6th! Dine. Enjoy the live music. Bid on the silent and live auction items.  Buy a raffle ticket or two – who knows? You might even win the Royal Caribbean cruise!

It’s going to be a great party, and YOU are invited!
