New Faces, New Spaces –
What’s New at Genesis Classical Academy?

While Genesis Classical Academy students have been enjoying their summer break, the administrators and board, teachers and staff, and many volunteers have been working hard to prepare for our third year of operation!

The majority of the teaching staff and board attended the 25th annual Association of Classical Christian Schools conference in June. ACCS is a nationwide organization that seeks to equip its member schools in using the classical approach to instruct the next generation in the light of a Christian worldview. Teachers attended a workshop series on Essential Training for Classical Christian Teachers to build on our core attributes of Christ, character and classical methodology.

Three new teachers will be joining the staff at Genesis Classical Academy this year. Sixth grade is being added to the existing pre-school through 5th grade. Merilyn Yates will be the new sixth grade teacher. She is an experienced 6th grade teacher with a BS in Secondary Education with concentrations in Music and Home Economics.

Cherryl Cain will be teaching the 3, 4 & 5 year-old preschool class. She has a BS in Elementary Education and a BA in Music. She has previous preschool teaching and special education para experience.

Also joining the staff is Bart Whitman, who will be teaching Physical Education for all grades this year. He has a BA in Youth Ministry and an MA in Theology and has assisted in coaching at GHEC and Truman.

We also have several new students and families who will be joining the Genesis community! Enrollment stands at 52 students, with additional families still considering their options – so we anticipate 10 or more new students this year. We welcome all of the new students, families, and staff to Genesis Classical Academy!

As an added bonus, students, ages 9-14, will have the opportunity to participate in a new Lego Robotics program, and guitar lessons are being added to the music curriculum for 6th graders.

Our building has undergone a makeover as well, with newly painted rooms, new carpet and flooring in our entrance and kitchen, newly-painted Dikkers Hall, a new art room, fresh landscaping and new technology in every classroom! There is no way to adequately thank the many, many volunteers who came in to sheet rock, move furniture, hang projectors and screens, rewire, hang lights, remodel rooms, plumb, paint, carpet, demo and clean. Generous benefactors also donate thousands of dollars to our school each year to make it possible for all children to have an exceptional education. Every student receives a scholarship. All we can say is that we are humbly grateful.

As we open the doors to our third year at Genesis Classical Academy, we are blessed to be growing by a full grade of students each year, and our goal is that no child be turned away for financial reasons. If you are looking for a family-centered, safe, nurturing, individualized learning experience for your child, look no further. Genesis Classical Academy is just the school for you! Check us out on our Facebook page, and watch for our new mobile app. Why not? You CAN afford it!
